  1: Cuddles with Quartz

  Quartz

Jayden kindly shifted and gave me complete control for Posy's cuddle session. I'd have to repay him somehow, but for now, all I could focus on was my mate's sweet self.

I couldn't say I was shocked by her reaction to the king and queen's disagreement; trauma didn't go away overnight - or ever - and we should have known that she'd get upset. The incident was a good reminder to me, my wolf brothers, and our boys why we were keeping the arguing to a minimum and walking away before our tempers made us loud and aggressive.

Now, lying on the living room rug in my own fur, I let Posy do anything she wanted to me because I knew she took comfort in it, even if it was absolutely ridiculous for an alpha wolf to be treated like a dog.

"I was so scared, Quartz," she whispered. "I thought he would kill her for talking that way to him. That's what my father would have done. No one ever argued with him, not even my mom."

Your father was probably abusive toward her, too, my love, I said. He seemed like the type. I bet he even blamed his wife for what happened while the rogues held her.

"My brothers said my mates could explain that." She rubbed the inside of my ears in that way I loved. "Will you tell me? What did James mean, they forced her?"

I debated for a moment, then decided no one would mind if I handled this one.

You remember what you and the boys talked about concerning mating? I waited until she nodded. The rogues mated with your mom without her permission and without the mate bond. It was nothing like what you feel with the boys. They were mean and cruel and hurt her. It's called rape.

Her eyes overflowed with tears as I spoke, and I licked them off her cheeks as they fell.

"Why?" her voice cracked. "Why would they do that to any she-wolf, least of all my mom? She was sweet and kind and gentle!"

I am sorry to say that there is a type of male in whom there exists a need to brutally control everything and everyone, to destroy anything sweet and kind and gentle. Now, add in the rogue factor. Most are vile and lawless, little more than gangs of mutts who don't understand family or love. That is why the king works to exterminate those that cannot be rehabilitated.

"But why would Father blame my mom? If they forced her, it wasn't her fault!"

Jayden was telling me something, and I listened as he explained the psychology of victim-blaming. It made no sense to me, but I tried to boil it down for Posy as cleanly as I could.

Your father was that type of male, too. Control without empathy. Destruction without sympathy.

She tilted her head as she thought about that, and I shoved my muzzle in her bared neck. Taking a deep inhale, I drowned in her chocolate-chip cookie scent. Compared to me, she was so very tiny, and it brought out every protective instinct I had.

I'd give every single inch of my blood-stained soul to keep this little one safe.

She'd stopped petting me while she was thinking, so I nudged her hand with my nose. She blinked, smiled at me, and began to run her fingers through my chest hair. I rumbled deep in my throat and laid my chin on her shoulder.

Do you know how she ended up with the rogues?

"Um, no. I didn't know anything about it at all until James told me. I thought Father was my father. Do you think it matters?"

No. I'm just curious. Packs are so secure and well-established now, thanks to King Julian and his father before him, that rogues don't dare attack or invade anymore. I wonder how they got their hands on her, that's all.

"I can ask my brothers. They might know."

It isn't important. Those it affected the most are dead.

  "Quartz?"

  Hmm?

"Do you think—" She paused and bit her bottom lip.

Just ask me, my love. There is nothing you can't ask me.

"Do you think it bothers the boys?"

  What? Does what bother them?

"That I'm— That I'm part rogue?" She finished on a little sob, and my heart broke.

You are nothing of the kind. As soon as you mate with the boys, you will be the luna of Five Fangs, Earthshine, Great Rocks, Moonset, Dark Woods, and River Rapids. There is no other shifter alive today who is a part of six packs, let alone in such a high position. You are as far from a rogue as it is possible to get. Besides, being a rogue is more about the mindset than being packless.

"Wait. Six packs? I remember Ash mentioning Dark Woods was his former pack. Are those others the rest of the boys' former packs?"

The Moon Goddess still recognizes them, so I don't know if 'former' is the right word. However, once your first pup is born, they will dissolve and only Five Fangs will exist.

"First pup," she mouthed with wide eyes.

I smirked at her look of shell-shock. I could not wait to see her round with a pup, although I knew it was likely to be a few years. They were all so young, as Ash had pointed out, and wanted to live a little. My wolf brothers and I understood that and wouldn't pressure any of them - no matter how much we longed for it. Continuing our line was a primal need in a wolf, made even stronger by our alpha blood.

"The way moon magic works can be weird sometimes," she said at last. "Well, anyway, which pack belongs to who?"

Earthshine is Mason's. Great Rocks is Cole's. Moonset is ours. River Rapids is Wyatt's.

"Moonset. That's a beautiful name for a pack. I haven't been outside under the moon for a very long time. Does Five Fangs have midnight runs on a full moon?"

Of course. Is that something you look forward to, my love?

  "Oh, yes! I can't wait!"

I chuckled as her enthusiasm made her bounce up and down and clap her hands.

"I love you, Quartz." She cradled my head in her hands and kissed me right between my eyes.

  I love you, too.

  "Can I pet your belly?"

I groaned, but gave in and rolled onto my back. Almost immediately, she found my sweet spot and my back leg kicked in reaction, which made her dissolve into a fit of giggles.

We spent nearly an hour together, snuggling and talking about anything she wanted to, before Wyatt came into the living room and scooped her up.

Granite, you need to stop interrupting others while they're loving on our mate, I grumbled.

Come on, Q, he said with a cheeky smile. You know I never good at waiting my turn.

Sinking to his level, I blew a raspberry at him.

  2: Making Her Point

  Wyatt

Much later, we were in bed waiting for our girl, who said she wanted to talk to us. She'd seemed so serious when she said it that we were all a little tense.

We knew she was down because we were leaving tomorrow, but we got the feeling that something more was on her mind.

She came out of our closet wearing one of Cole's white dress shirts - and nothing else. Well, I assumed she had panties on, but the shirt went to her knees, so she was fully covered either way. The sleeves were rolled up to her elbows and the top two buttons were undone.

Not nearly far enough, I mourned. Not a hint of her perfect cleavage on display.

  What's cleavage, Wy?

  Titties, Granite.

  Ooh. I LIKE Posy's titties.

  Me, too.

Without a word, she came over and stood at the side of the bed, then looked at us expectantly.

"Yes, princess?" Ash asked with raised eyebrows.

"Could one of you please pick me and put me on the bed?"

Rock-Paper-Scissors? Cole shot through the link.

We all nodded, not taking our eyes off of her as he counted 1-2-3. We each threw out a hand and glanced to see if someone had won. I crowed in victory and leapt off the bed, making our girl giggle.

I swung her up like a bride and went to place her in the middle when she shook her head and pointed her finger to the foot end. I gave her a curious look, but set her down where she wanted.

I ran back to my side and jumped in as Posy folded her legs demurely to the side. Once I was settled against the headboard with my brothers, I saw that her hair was up in a messy bun, there was a pencil behind her ear, and she held a clipboard.

  An actual clipboard.

"Now, boys, as I said earlier, I have some very important things to discuss with you before you leave tomorrow, so please pay attention."

Oh, my Goddess, Jay moaned through the link. She just needs a pair of those half-moon reading glasses to make all my sexy librarian fantasies come true.

I was thinking naughty secretary, I admitted, but that works, too.

"I know Ash is going to fall asleep soon," she was saying, "so I'll start with the most urgent one first. That way, when he falls asleep, I can put the rest on hold until you get back. Sound okay?"

Like good little puppies, we all nodded.

"Number one." She unclipped a stack of cash from her clipboard and held it up. "I won four hundred dollars on a bet today. The queen hasn't paid up yet, but I assume she's good for it. I want to use it to host a birthday party for Tyler."

"There's— There's so much to talk about in what you just said," Cole murmured.

  Ash and I giggled.

"Oh, don't worry. I didn't bet with your money. Emerson said he'd spot me if I lost, but since I won, it didn't matter. Anyway, Queen Lilah is going to help me plan it, but I don't know how much it costs. Will you loan me some if this isn't enough?"

"Of course, sweetness," Jay said for all of us. "We were going to do something, anyway, with the other betas."

"And you don't have to use your money. Save it for a rainy day. We'll cover it," Mason told her.

I don't think she knows too much about money, I linked my boys. Like how much things cost and stuff. I mean, she's worried that some balloons, a cake, and a few decorations will cost more than four hundred dollars.

And what did she mean, our money? It's her money, too, Cole sounded puzzled.

We need to set her straight on a couple of issues, money being one of them, Mason linked back.

"We need to have a talk about money when we get back from Tall Pines," he said aloud.

"You can make up your own list of topics for discussion." She raised an eyebrow and gave him a stern look. "Right now, I'm going over mine."

  "Yes, ma'am."

"Thank you." She took her pencil from behind her ear, licked the tip, and checked off something on her clipboard.

I let out a quiet groan and folded my hands over my growing erection.

Ahh! This girl is going to kill me! Cole was also struggling, it seemed.

"Moving on to number two, which is related to number one. I checked with Peri first, and she said she's ninety-nine percent sure none of you will have a bad reaction to me asking this. For that tiny one percent chance, though, I'm letting you know it's about Tyler."

She paused and looked at us.

What's she waiting for? I asked.

To see if any of us are going to wolf out like I did when she asked about Ev the other night. Jay's tone was bitter.

Don't be like that, Ash told him. She's being her usual considerate self and making sure you - and all of us - are okay before she brings it up. Be grateful, not sour, about it.

"I'd like to know Tyler's story," she continued when we stayed silent. "Not tonight, and not because I'm being nosy. It's obvious that he went through something traumatic. When I first came here, Ash explained to me what triggering was, and I don't want to trigger Tyler with something I do or say if I can avoid it."

She bit her bottom lip, as if nervous we would say no.

I don't understand how her heart can be so sweet after what she's gone through, Ash said, but I'm going to love it for the rest of my life.

  Me, too, we all agreed.

"Sure, little flower. How kind and thoughtful of you." Mason smiled, something he'd been doing a lot more lately.

Thanks to our little mate, Granite grinned, and I nodded.

Pink washed over her face at the compliments, making us aww at her.

"You know, I like this." She cocked her head to the side with a tiny smile. "I feel in control. Organized. Like I actually know what I'm doing." She laughed lightly. "Does that even make sense?"

"Of course it does, cutie," I told her. "We'll do this more often since it makes you happy and builds your confidence. Now, how many points do you have left? Ash's eyelids are drooping."

  They are? he asked.

  They are, we replied.

"Three more, but I can hold off on the last one. In fact, I'm deciding right now to hold off on it. So, number three, which goes into four. I'm ready for you to mark me, and I'd like to practice mating."

Shock silenced us for a moment.

"Thank you, sweetness," Jay said at last. "That makes us so happy."

"Practice?" My brain turned on again. "I get marking, but what do you mean by practice mating?"

"Um, well, ease into, uh, mating." Her eyes went to Mason, then flicked to Cole as red fired through her cheeks. "Like with clothes on? See how it goes? Just, you know, practice."

She held the clipboard up to cover her face.

So she wants to do more kissing and touching? Is that what she's saying? I felt like I was about to come apart at the seams with excitement.

She already has. At least with me and Mase. Cole's grin made me grind my teeth.

  Smug mutt.

It sounds like that's what she wants, but we'll clarify it with her later, Jay said, because Ash is fading fast.

I am? His voice was groggy and slow.

  You are, we chorused.

"Wait a minute!" I squawked, making Posy lower her clipboard. "Tyler's birthday was ranked higher than marking and mating?!"

"Of course marking and mating are more important, but I said I was ordering things by urgency. Tyler's only going to turn eighteen one time, and it happens in two weeks."

At her sassy tone, my dick hardened a little more, and I grabbed one of my many pillows to cover it. My hands were big, but not big enough to hide that tent in my boxers.

"We understand, honey, and we can talk more about number four in the morning when we're all wide awake."

Hey, don't throw me under the bus, Ash grumbled at Cole. I can't help the way I am.

"When would you like us to mark you?" Jay asked her.

  "First thing in the morning."

We finally get to mark our mate! Granite and I yipped at the same time.

"Okay, go to number five, princess," Ash slurred a little, a small snore buzzing through the words.

"I decided to table that for another time, remember? It wasn't a good idea to bring it up at bedtime anyway because you'll have strong emotions on it."

"Is it a time-sensitive issue?" Mason suddenly became alert. "Is it anything that affects your safety or health?"

"Uh, no and no. Just something I'm struggling with and want your opinions on."

"I can wake up if you need me to," Ash yawned.

Despite his words, his body moved from sitting against the headboard with the rest of us to lying flat on his back, his usual sleeping position.

"No, we'll talk later," she told him.

" 'K, cupcake. Gimme kisses 'fore beddy."

Posy put down her clipboard, crawled up next to him, and kissed him softly on the lips.

No fair, he mumbled. Our first real kiss ... and I'm not ... awake ... enough ... to—

  And he was out.

Posy leaned over him to give Mase, then Cole goodnight kisses, and her shirt rode up, exposing the silky skin of her thighs and the barest hint of butt cheeks.

Jay let a few no-no words slip into the link, and Mase and Cole wanted to know why, so I sent them the image of our girl's sweet ass up in the air, and their groans echoed my own.

What I wouldn't give to plow into that right this second, I thought. Grab her hips and pound balls-deep into her—

Wyatt! my brothers yelled at me, and I realized I still had the link open.

  Sorry not sorry.

They all three groaned again, and I snickered out loud, drawing Posy's attention.

She spun toward me with gleaming eyes. Wriggling halfway over Jay to reach me, she playfully smushed my face between her palms and made my lips pop out like a fish. She giggled, and Jay put his hands on her waist to hold her still.
